Network

The model of interconnection for the WA-RBC cooperative is one which utilizes Community Access Points (CAPs) surrounding the WA-RBC core. These CAPs are comprised of standardized sets hardware/software deployed at all of the nodes of the WA-RBC other than the IX-NWWA which aggregates all of the CAPs. This model lends itself to scaling in two ways; the first, by allowing for a minimal set of necessary options for spares, and two, by allowing for equipment that can no longer support the bandwidth flowing through a CAP to be migrated to a new CAP as it is created on the network. This flexible and standardized model is key to lowering overall cost of ownership and thus decreasing costs for all members of the co-op.

The WA-RBC network is designed to only use standards based technologies for maximum inter-operability and cost savings. We are also utilizing open source software to support the network. Doing so results in even greater savings which are passed directly to the members of the WA-RBC non profit cooperative in the form of decreased fees for high bandwidth connectivity.
